Day 1: A 100-day journey to ₦1,000,000

Mustapha Oyenuga

About a year ago, I made a post on my WhatsApp status asking if it was possible to make ₦1,000,000 in 100 days using 50,000 or less.

Actually I was thinking about three months, but 100 days just sounded better, so I went with that.

Most of the replies I got were "No", "Not possible" etc. Then I decided I was going to attempt it, but from ₦0.

Why am I doing this you might say?

In a country where many of our teenagers and young adults see illegal means as the only way to make an income, I want to at least show the ones around me what's possible using the resources at your disposal and by putting in the work.

Secondly, this is also a personal challenge for me: building something from scratch as an entrepreneur. I used to say "Entrepreneurship isn't for me". Well we'll find out.

Now some might say it's not entirely from scratch seeing as I have a working laptop, access to internet, experience, knowledge, skills and all that and that's a fair point. But it's like I said, "using the resources at your disposal" and these are my resources.

Facing my fears

I should have started this a couple of months back, but I didn't because that 'dude' we all know came knocking - Fear. The fear of failure to be precise.

Now that I think about it, I really don't think I have set myself up in conditions where I could fail enough. I have always avoided it and boy, it has cost me progress.

So here's the plan

Starting tomorrow, I'm beginning this run. Let's call it #ZerotoOneMillionNaira challenge.

It's simple, I will attempt to make ₦1,000,000 in 100 days starting from ₦0.

Here are the rules:

  • Any existing source of income doesn't count.
  • I will be fully transparent about the journey

I don't have a fully mapped out plan yet and that's intentional. I am not going to kill this by overanalyzing. The goal is not to be perfect, it's to make progress.

But I think I'll probably explore:

  • freelancing and consulting
  • digital products
  • buying and selling etc.

I'll just experiment, learn and change course when needed.

This will be the biggest personal project I have taken on so far as I will be pushing myself far beyond my limits and way out of my comfort zone. I want this to be useful, so I will be documenting and sharing what worked, failures, challenges and the exact steps I took.

If you're an aspiring entrepreneur, maybe you might learn a thing or two from my failures. And if you simply want to follow along just for the fun of it, you're more than welcome.

Welcome to this ride. It's gonna be a long one.

A new day, another opportunity to become World Class 🚀
